I live in New York City and have resided here since May of 2006. I was born in Mineola NY but spent most of my life growing up in the small unknown town of South Boston VA, and have had a craving my entire life to make it to the Big Apple. I finally moved up here from Wilmington NC with my wife Katie, who happens to be my favorite person and photographer. Previous to that I was living in Blacksburg VA and went to school there at Virginia Tech University.
I’m a Linux programmer who specializes in system architecture and scaling high traffic websites. I quite enjoy the philosophy of open source and contributing code back to the community. I really believe that if you are using free software that its important to give back in some form or fashion, whether its documentation, bugfixes, entire libraries, or just helping give feedback.
The idea behind this blog follows that philosophy. I would like to share with people some of the things I’ve learned over the years. I’ve been able to come up with some automated ways to make various things easier, which saves quite a bit of time and allows people to focus on the fun stuff.
